Lula Mae Gill Tuesday, May 2, 1933 - Thursday, March 16, 2017

Lula May Hutcherson Gill, age 83, departed this life March 16, 2017 in Balch Springs, Texas. She was born on Tuesday, May 2, 1933 in Utica, Kansas the daughter of Burrell Q. Hutcherson and Margret Annabelle Young Hutcherson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James O. Gill; son, James Dean; daughter, Jennifer Dawn and siblings, Annie Walker, Florence Sowell, Herschel Hutcherson. Opal Hodge, Sarah Hutcherson, Esther Hutcherson, Leonard Hutcherson, Burrell Hutcherson and Victor Hutcherson. Lula graduated from Larned High School in 1952. She was united in marriage to James Gill on July 23, 1961. They were married 44 years. From this union three children were born. She was a faithful member of New Mt. Zion since 1987. Lula started working at Larned State Hospital, then moved to Topeka and became employed at Topeka State Hospital for over 35 years. She retired in May of 1994. Lula was a quiet humble loving person and very caring. She loved babies and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. You could not have met a nicer person. Within the past year, her health began to fail and God called her to her heavenly home on March 16, 2017. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Daphane Gill-Willingham (Cory); two grandchildren, Alicia Talbert and Alexis Gill; brother, Howard Hutcherson of Kansas City, Missouri; sisters, Beverly Flowers (Melvin) of Cleveland, Ohio and Emma West of Gulfport, Mississippi; four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loved ones; a special love for Roxanne.

Service Details: Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2801 SE Indiana Avenue, Topeka, Kansas. Visitation will be Friday, March 24, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Family will greet guest from 6-8 p.m. at the Bowser-Johnson Funeral Chapel, 723 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas.
